The company Simplex CZ was established in 2000, a year when it was also registered in the Commercial Register of the Czech Republic. Throughout its history, the company has had two owners, Mr. Ladislav Starka and Mr. Radek Ulrych. Since its establishment, the company has been operating as a purely trading company. It specializes in trade with Latin America, primarily with Cuba where it has been active since 2000. The company deals with export of commodities, food, raw materials and technologies for food and the brewing industry.

The first major business deal – the export of packaging materials – was concluded in 2001; in the same year the company started to cooperate with the credit insurance company EGAP (a state export insurance company established to support Czech export). The company has been cooperating with EGAP continuously ever since, and during this period, more than CZK 4.8 billion (approx. EUR 190 million) worth of insured goods was exported to Cuba. In 2017, Simplex CZ was awarded the “Exporter of the Year” for its successful export to Cuba in a category announced by the Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation (EGAP). The year 2005 was an important milestone for the company, as Simplex CZ obtained registration from the Cuba Chamber of Commerce to establish a branch in the country. Since then, the company has its own offices and employees in Havana and since it opened, the Havana branch has been managed by José Pellón who has a great deal of experience with the food industry and technologies. Before joining Simplex CZ, he managed a brewery in Havana. In 2011, Simplex CZ established another branch, this time in Panama. This branch is also primarily focused on trading activity – namely, on export and import in the countries of Latin America. The establishment of the Panama branch also resulted in internal reorganization of the company. José Pellón took over the direction of the Panama office as the main Latin American branch, that also subordinated the Havana office to the Panama branch. The company cooperates with tens of reputable Czech and European producers in different areas on a long-term basis. It thus offers its subcontractors the opportunity to penetrate with their products into non-traditional Caribbean markets.

Currently, Simplex CZ has 8 employees at its Prague headquarters, 6 employees at its Havana branch, and 2 employees at its Panama office. It cooperates with tens of other external collaborators.
